# How do I create a new log?

A new log can only be created if:

1. a session series has been created => [How do I create a new session series?](https://help.smino.com/en/article/how-do-i-create-a-new-session-series-1v0xzo1/)
2. you have write access to the session series => [How can another person collaborate on my log?](https://help.smino.com/en/article/how-can-another-person-collaborate-on-my-log-1bjeaur/)

Click on the button **+ New Protocol** in the overview of the session series.

A new window opens. Select whether the last protocol are to be taken over completely, the agenda items/agenda are to be taken over **from the last protocol, an empty protocol or protocol are to be opened on the basis of a created protocol template** (1.). Then click on the button **Open log** (2.).

The new log is opened and can be edited.
